Andalusia cycling holidays
Andalusia in southern Spain is a sleeping giant when it comes to quality road cycling. The inland mountains offer a peaceful setting and incredible mixed terrain rides. Sierra de Grazalema, Sierra Cazorla and Sierra Nevada are well kept Spanish secrets and for road cycling are a few of the best national parks in Europe. Sierra Sports & Tours calls Andalusia home and we always thrilled to showcase the Costa del Sol (Malaga to Ronda), Route of the Caliphate (Granada to Cordoba) and Renaissance Spain (Baeza to Cazorla) region. Mountains, history, olive groves, national park, sunny weather, beach, gastronomy and La Vuelta (Tour of Spain) routes at every corner all combine to make Andalusia the perfect cycling holiday destination. With 300 days of sunshine per year we look forward to welcoming you to southern Spain for your next European cycling adventure!

Pro cycling with a twist?
There are many other fantastic pro races away from the major grand tours which may take your fancy. While all road cycling enthusiasts will generally love to see Le Tour at least once in their lifetime there will be others keen to watch special events, such as, Milan-San Remo, Giro di Lombardia, Liege-Bastogne-Liege, Amstel Gold Race, Tour of Suisse, Vuelta a Basque Country, Arctic Race of Norway, San Sebastian Classic ….
During 2019 we were pleased to roll-out a special tour package to the Criterium du Dauphine which is the famous annual lead up race to the Tour de France. This French Alpes journey started and finished in Grenoble and provided the perfect balance between pro racing, Tour de France road recognition and back road cycling experiences. The Criterium du Dauphine is one of the most important lead-up Tour de France races. There are many advantages in travelling to the ‘Dauphine’ rather than Le Tour. The race is disputed during early June and also organised by A.S.O which means all the big names come out for this 8 stage race. The lesser crowds means access to the stages is improved and with the race confined to a relatively small geographical area transfers are kept to a minimum meaning more time for you to ride and explore!

European mainland to island hopping
More examples for private cycling tour getaways include escapes into countries like Portugal and Slovenia or even island hopping to places such as the Spanish Canary Islands (Tenerife or Lanzarote), Mallorca or Sardinia and Sicily.
We would like to showcase Slovenia as a potential cycling tour destination. When travelling to Slovenia it is often a good idea to include a few initial nights in Italy before crossing the border. From Venice (Italy) the cycling route can pass along the world renowned Prosecco Wine Road and San Boldo Climb. From here it is a short trip into Fruili region to conquer the infamous Monte Zoncolan. With San Boldo and Zoncolan steeped in Giro d’Italia history the trip is already off to a flying start.
The arrival into Slovenia over the Pre-Alpes Giulie and cycling alongside the fast flowing waters of the Soca River is a once in a lifetime experience. Slovenia is one of the most stunning countries in Europe for its well preserved natural environment, mighty forests and emerald rivers! This tour option also passes over the Julian Alps with mountain views of the Triglav National Park and onto the picture perfect views of Lake Bled. The cycling finishes in Ljubljana the capital city of Slovenia!

Some things to consider
Our European bases are in southern Spain and Madrid which means we are always ready to help out private cycling groups with support vehicles, road bikes, cycling guides, drivers, mechanics …. Just let us know what is required and we will be more than happy to provide your group a customised itinerary and quote.
If your plan is to cycle the big European mountain passes then to be safe cross-out October to June. The majority of Europe´s high mountain passes will most likely be under metres of snow during these months!
If like so many others southern Spain (Andalusia) is your dream destination then we suggest avoiding July and August if you don’t like cycling in hot conditions . With 300 days of sunshine a year the months from February to July and September to December are typically perfect for cycling Andalusia!
