Sardinia cycling tour

Tour Description

4-13 June 2026 – ENQUIRE TODAY

Here is a beautiful itinerary for recreational cyclists looking for a truly unique adventure. Road cycling in Sardinia is a big deal and the island even kickstarted the 2017 Giro d’Italia (Stages 1-3). Considering this was the 100th Anniversary of the race that captures the maglia rosa it was quite an honour. But it was also not surprising seeing Sardinia boasts some of the most spectacular cycling landscapes in Europe!

Your cycling tour will start from Olbia in the north-east and move directly into the medium mountains which dissect inland Sardinia. From inland Sardinia the riding heads towards the west coast. This tour will leave the bigger mountains of the east-coast alone and make way for more rolling cycling terrain on the west-coast. Roads that twist and turn out to pristine peninsulas and coves will delight those keen for a post-ride swim in the most amazing crystalline waters. Multiple night stays in Bosa and Alghero will also be real treats!

Day 1 – Olbia – Sardinia!

Pre-tour we recommend you spend a day or two enjoying everything that vibrant Olbia has to offer. This coastal town in the north-eastern corner of Sardinia is beautifully positioned. For a bit of R&R we like the Porto Istana beach which is a short bus/taxi ride from the city centre. The turquoise blue waters will be sure to impress!

Otherwise, our team will meet you at 3:00pm in Hotel Regina Elena (Olbia). There will be time to fit your bikes, go through a tour briefing and enjoy a welcome tour dinner.

Distance: Bike Fitting / Meals: Dinner Included / Sleep: Olbia (Sardinia)

Day 2 – Olbia to Bitti

The inland mountains practically run north-south through Sardinia. From Olbia there will be a 20min van transfer before we get you started on a lovely route straight from the 2027 Giro d’Italia. The roads between Olbia and Bitti never get too steep but they are a constant effort. Previous groups have found this to be an excellent ride to get the tour started. After a day cycling through this region you will understand why we have brought you into this secluded section of the island. The outdoor pool at our mountain hotel will also be a welcome sight!

Distance: 70km / Meals: Breakfast & Dinner Included / Sleep: Bitti (Sardinia)

Day 3 – Nuoro cycling loop

Today we have a fantastic cycling loop around Bitti and the interior medium mountains of central Sardinia. The ride clocks in at 75km and 1000m of elevation gain. The main climb to contend with today is Terme Aurora which measures in at 10.2km at 3.7% ave grade.

Once over the final climb the road starts to twist and turn and the final 15km is pure joy back to the hotel. Drinks around the outdoor pool will be back on the agenda!

Distance: 75km / Meals: Breakfast Included / Sleep: Bitti (Sardinia)

Day 4 – Heading to the west coast!

Cycling out from the hotel and we have designed a 70km route that finishes in Nuoro. With a population of 30,000 it is the sixth biggest city in Sardinia. Before arriving to Nuoro though the course follows an enjoyable 50km through favourable terrain. The interior of the island is perfect for road cycling as the roads are very lightly trafficked. Most of the climbing today is packed into the final 10 kilometres. The valleys below Nuoro hover around the 150-200m elevation. Nuoro is positioned at 550m so one final effort up to the capital of the region and a well-earnt lunch break. Post-ride there will be a 1hr van transfer through to Cabras on the central west coast.

To cap off a great day the tour includes a special evening boat trip around the calm waters of San Giovanni di Sinis. Dinner will be served on-board! Marvel at the sights as you gaze out to Tharros an archaeological area which dates back to the time of the Phoenicians.

Distance: 70km / Meals: Breakfast & Dinner Included / Sleep: Cabras (Sardinia)

Day 5 – Torre dei Corsari

The cycling route on offer takes our cyclists through to Torre dei Corsari. The majestic coastal beauty of this area sees cliffs touch the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean. The route will finish on the beach so there will be time for a swim and lunch at a fabulous beachside restaurant.

Before getting to lunch though the road heads east in search of the picturesque town of Ales. At the half-way mark, Ales is the perfect place for a coffee stop and chance for a quick visit. The climbing includes 4 small climbs between 2-4km and the gradients never get steeper than 3-4%.

Once we have finished in Torre dei Corsari there will be a 1hr van transfer back to the hotel. While it is a free-night we would like to still recommend that you join the guides to dine at a fantastic pizza restaurant in the centre of town!

Distance: 50 or 100km / Meals: Breakfast Included / Sleep: Cabras (Sardinia)

Day 6 – Cabras to Bosa

The ride today links the Cabras hotel with our new base for 2 nights in Bosa. From Cabras to Bosa the ride intersects salt flats and the coast before turning inland. The road then slowly rises from sea level to 300m altitude before finishing in Bosa which provides the perfect blend of history and nature! Bosa is the junction where the River Temo meets the coast. The river is flanked by former tanneries and the town boasts a picturesque blend of history and coastal allure. Past clients have loved to explore the tiny streets in the heart of this small town.

Distance: 75km / Meals: Breakfast & Dinner Included / Sleep: Bosa (Sardinia)

Day 7 – Evora to Monsaraz

This morning a hotel-hotel loop ride awaits. The farming land to the east of Bosa will provide the perfect backdrop for one of the more challenging rides on tour. Along the route there is one main climb to contend with (11.4km at 4.6% average). It begins only a few kilometres from the hotel so we will get it over and done with quickly.  Through the middle of the route there are two more 5km climbs with 4.5% average grades before a 15km descent all the way back to the hotel in Bosa.

During the afternoon we can organise a local beach visit for those who are keen for a swim. The beach near the Bosa Marina also has a number of bars which will the perfect place for an afternoon Spritz!

Distance: 80km / Meals: Breakfast Included / Sleep: Bosa (Sardinia)

Day 8 – Bosa to Alghero coastal road!

What lies ahead of us today is the spectacular coastal road from Bosa to Alghero. A road that constantly rises, dips and turns and which offers breathtaking views out to the sea. The 50km route through to our hotel in Alghero for the final 2 nights will be locked into your memory banks for a long time!

To conclude the tour, Alghero is a charming coastal city in Sardinia (approx. 45,000 inhabitants). It was founded by the Genoese in the 12th Century and experienced a cultural transformation under Catalan influence. Tonight you will have a free night to explore this treasure of the Mediterranean!

Distance: 50km / Meals: Breakfast Included / Sleep: Alghero (Sardinia)

Day 9 – Bosa to Alghero coastal road!

It might be the final day of cycling but we have a scenic finale for you all. Riding from the hotel and the first stop is out to the Cappo Caccia peninsula. The views out to the sea and looking back to Alghero are second to none. As you ride back out from the peninsula the reward will be the finish at the beachside town of Argentiera. Along the way you will first need to climb several 2km long pinches. The legs will be feeling strong by this stage of the tour. The crystal-clear waters of Argentiera will provide the perfect opportunity for a final dip in the Mediterranean.  This town is testament again to Sardinia’s rich history. What was once a bustling silver mining town is now a UNESCO heritage site. The industrial archaeology, cliffs and dramatic geological landscape blend to provide a unique destination!

Distance: 85km / Meals: Breakfast & Dinner Included / Sleep: Alghero (Sardinia)

Day 10 – Goodbyes

Following breakfast our guides will be available to transfer you to Alghero Airport (20 min). We can have you at Alghero airport by 10:30am so please keep that in mind when organising any onwards flights. We trust you have enjoyed your Sardinia cycling tour experience!
