Daily Tour Overview – 2024 Example

Day 1 – Arrival – Milan collection

This morning we will welcome you at Milan Malpensa airport. Our transfer will leave the airport at approx. 10:00am. During the early afternoon our tour leaders and bike mechanics will be available to help you assemble/fit your bikes and head out for a guided warm-up bike ride in this beautiful area. The hotel’s proximity to bike paths along the river (Fiume Adda) will provide the perfect opportunity to discover the area by bike. Later this evening we will gather for an evening meal together and tour briefing.

Distance: 30km / Meals: Dinner Included / Sleep: Bormio (Lombardia)

Day 2 – Giro Stage 15 – Livigno!

Stage 15 of the 2024 Giro finishes high in the Italian Alps at the Mottolino ski station. The race’s longest stage follows a 220km route through to Livigno. To connect with the race route from Bormio our cycling begins by climbing over Passo di Foscagno. This 24km climb has a 4.5% average grade so it will be the perfect way to get yourself ready for the steeper climbs that await. The descent down to Livigno will be riveting before the final 8.3km climb to Mottolino. The initial 6km are a fairly constant 6-7% grade before the final 2km pinch to the ski station. This will be the first time the Giro finishes on the Mottolino and the 8-10% grades and maximum 18% ramp will make for captivating viewing.

Distance: 65km / Meals: Breakfast Included / Sleep: Bormio (Lombardia)

Day 3 – Giro rest day – Mortirolo anyone?

It’s not every day you get the chance to attempt an out and out wall like Mortirolo. This was a road which was always a secondary mountain route until it became asphalted in 1990.  From that time on a new page in the Giro history books was opened. In those 30 years there have been as many as 14 Giro crossings and names such as Marco Pantani, Ivan Basso, Steven Kruiswijk and Luis Leon Sanchez have all lead the peloton over this 1851m elevation summit. It will be a great chance for everyone to test themselves on an authentic Giro d’Italia classic.

Distance: 70 or 90km / Meals: Breakfast & Dinner Included / Sleep: Bormio (Lombardia)

Day 4 – Giro Stage 16 – Stelvio Pass

Today we say goodbye to Bormio and ride towards our new base in Levico Terme. Before that though, the Giro peloton leaves Livigno and after 30km will also find themselves in Bormio. The 20.2km Stelvio ascent averages 7.2% with a few steeper sections also thrown in for fun (a max gradient of 14% awaits). The climb starts with some hairpins (surprise, surprise), a few impressive tunnels, before a longer straight section through a steep valley. If the views were not enough this route also intersects a couple of spectacular waterfalls as you near the upper sections. The aim is always to leave something extra in the tank as the final 3km up to 2758m elevation average nearly 10%.

Distance: 70km / Meals: Breakfast & Dinner Included / Sleep: Levico Terme (Trentino)

Day 5 – Giro Stage 17 – Passo Brocon

Today our guided ride will take in a beautiful stretch along the Brenta River. From the hotel you will immediately connect with the asphalted bike path. Giant mountains line both sides of the river and after 25km we will head north to intersect the Giro race course. Stage 17 of the 2024 Giro will see the peloton climb Passo Brocon via two different ascents. Our ride will connect the Giro race with 30km to the summit finish. Following the route of the pro’s we will descend to Catello Tesino and climb the steeper ascent to the finish line. This is a new road for the Giro and the final 12km climb at 6.5% average grade hides a few surpises in the final 2km. On approaching the summit you will be rewarded with tight curving roads which will make for an entertaining Stage 17 finish.

Distance: 80km / Meals: Breakfast Included / Sleep: Levico Terme (Trentino)

Day 6 – Make your own Giro history!

Today we will take a break from the Giro d’Italia to do some cycling in this beautiful part of Trentino region. Our base in Levico Terme lies at the highest point of the Valsugana valley floor (about 520m above sea level). Lake Levico and Lake Caldonazzo are natural lakes in the Valsugana area. Our 80km loop ride follows the western shore of Lake Caldonazzo. There are several challenges during today’s ride. Stage 16 of the 2023 Giro for instance entered this region (Joao Almeida of UAE was the stage winner) and as part of our route today we will also tackle Passo Sommo. Rising up from Lake Caldonazzo we encounter a 21.5km climb with an average grade of 4%. A number of stunning lookout points are also dotted throughout the ride with the Menador a real treat!

Distance: 80km / Meals: Breakfast & Dinner Included / Sleep: Levico Terme (Trentino)

Day 7 – Passo del Redebus

Taking advantage of our base and today we also enjoy the scenic roads surrounding the Trentino lakes district. During Stage 18 of the 2014 Giro d’Italia the peloton climbed Passo del Redebus. It is a lumpy ride for us to its base but the final turn-off to ‘Redebus’ shapes up as a 4km climb with an 8.5% average grade. The 15km descent on flowing roads back towards Levico will be an absolute treat. For those looking for more we have a few additional switchbacks in mind that will take you up through the densely vegetated forest directly to the east of the hotel. There will be time in the afternoon for some Stage 19 Giro action on the TV.

Distance: 70 or 100km / Meals: Breakfast Included / Sleep: Levico Terme (Trentino)

Day 8 – Giro Stage 20 – Monte Grappa

To finish things off you will cycle a brilliant route through the rolling hills of the Prosecco wine area. Following the landscapes of Italy’s prized sparkling wine will be a major highlight. For those looking for a challenge the ride passes by the base of Monte Grappa. The climb rises out of the Veneto plain and measures 27km at an average gradient of 6%. The Giro d’Italia has visited Monte Grappa (1775m) on 6 occasions and was last used during Stage 20 of the 2017 edition. During 2024 the Giro d’Italia will host a double ascent of Monte Grappa and watching the race with the ‘tifosi’ (Italian fans) will be something to savour. Will it be Tadej Pogacar climbing to victory on Monte Grappa?

Distance: 80km / Meals: Breakfast & Dinner Included / Sleep: Venice Airport

Day 9 – Goodbye to the Giro d’Italia

As we bid you farewell, we will offer an airport (Venice Marco Polo) or train station (Venice Mestre) transfer.  With morning flights and trains that head to Rome you have the option to watch the 2024 Giro race finish in the Italian capital. We trust you have enjoyed your 2024 Giro d’Italia tour experience!

Client Reviews (Giro d’Italia)

Ian (Canberra, ACT, Australia)

I’m unaware of the other ex-pros you use for your tours, but if they are half as good as Andrea, you are very lucky. He was exceptional, be it with hotel and restaurant staff, planning rides, ushering riders up hills, explaining Italian customs and recalling his pro riding days. He was just great to have around. Adding to our cycling tour experience were evening visits to a spectacular mountain top lake near Canazei and to a secluded Prosecco wine bar another time. I have already recommended you to a couple of mates.

Jos & Judy (Melbourne, VIC, Australia)
